Shirley Junior School

On June the 9th 2008 we spent the day at Bellemoor School.

Also called Upper Shirley High. All day we were finding out interesting facts about fair-trade . People from around the world came to us and told us about their lives. We went in separate groups and asked them questions. Juan Guzman Luna came to us.

From Mexico and told us about his life, Reynaldo Vanzquez is the president of Nicaragua, he told us about Estelí. Pascual Laura Quispe is the director of Cecovasa in Peru. Nimrod Wambette is the chairmen of Gumutindo in Uganda and last but not least Mugabi Sam Karugaba is also the chairman but of Abatenganda cooperative in Uganda.

We interviewed Juan Guzman:

Us: What is the hardest part in making coffee?

Juan: Harvest is the hardest part because you have to pick the ripest cherries, carry them to the wet mill on your back, remove the fruit and wash it, leave it in a big tank and wash it again and then leave it to dry in the sun.

Us: What is involved making coffee?

Juan: Plant the coffee plants that are around the height of 1 foot tall. Wait 3- 4 years until the coffee plant starts to produce fruit. Coffee tree starts growing and the coffee tree starts to produce coffee cherries.
